Job Description

SUMMARY:

Maintaining and repairing various plant equipment. Operates boilers and assumes responsibility of the boilers, their mechanical condition and safe operation and efficiencies while in use during the cold weather months. Responsible for housekeeping, inspection, equipment testing and diagnosis, maintenance and repair. Maintains employee communications and relationships, production records associated with activities of equipment and supports company goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reads, retains and implements information from all plant safety and equipment manuals and procedures, including electrical lock out-tag out procedures, the correct starting and stopping of machines, and the use of firefighting equipment and their locations.

Be able to work with and communicate with the supervisor and other members of the maintenance team to accomplish assigned work.

Know how to follow precise instructions for the assigned work.

Draw from memory the name and location of each production department, the department supervisor, and key production equipment.

Use the computer program work system, this consists of work orders and time sheets, parts requests, scheduled PM’s, and understand the equipment numbering system.

Read and perform measurements using control equipment and testing instruments such as weight scales and boiler controls, lab and chemical test equipment for boiler water treatment. Completes production reports indicating boiler performance.

Learn and maintain the complete steam system; including, unit heater, fire sprinkler valves and fire pump system.

Clean/service boiler and steam lines during summer months for inspection before heating season.

Identify equipment parts by an item number and be able to find the reference materials and/or the manufacturer’s repair manual in the file.

Locate a machine part in the parts manual and know the correct procedure to withdraw the item from the stockroom or to properly order the part.

Be able to have the skills required to do the various tasks associated with repairs such as welding, grinding, drilling, tapping, etc.

Know how to use a come-a-long, chain fall, chain sling, machinery dollies, etc. Know basic rigging procedures and safety procedures.

Locate and safely rig scaffolds, hydraulic lift equipment, ladders and similar devices used for maintenance operations that are elevated from the floor.

Performs daily inspections of equipment, inspecting for safety hazards and reporting all mechanical malfunctions and hazards.

Troubleshoot, isolate defects, locate problems, correct, adjust, and repair plant systems and equipment.

Remove and install internal motor components such as fans, bearings, using standard hand tools and mechanical hydraulic pullers, hydraulic presses, and similar devices.

Maintain a clean and safe work area and report any unsafe conditions or machinery to the department supervisor.

Describe the method of operation, safety, and control features of the various production equipment in the plant.

Describe the theory and the method of application for the following predictive maintenance methods: Vibration, Temperature, Infrared Scans.

Be able to disassemble/reassemble power transmission components: Belt drives, chain drives, coupling drives, etc. And perform basic alignment of these components using feeler gauges, straight edges, dial indicators, tensioning tools, etc. Also identify motor bearings and seals, look these items up in the manufacturers catalog and if needed, select a substitute for specific motor applications.

Be able to lace a wide variety of conveying belt materials using industry standard practices and install these belts properly, including tensioning and tracking.

Train new employees on correct work procedures and methods.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have good math skills, ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Must have the skills and ability to do the various tasks associated with repairs such as welding, grinding, drilling, tapping, etc. Knowledge in the use of measuring equipment such as tape measures, calipers, rulers, squares, temperature and pressure gages and any other instruments necessary to determine a standard of measure.

Must have good problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude and equipment knowledge.

Must have at minimum a valid Low Pressure 2nd Class C Boiler License, with a minimum of 1 year experience.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Highschool diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year job related experience and/or training. Must be trained and certified to operate maintenance lift platforms. Forklift certification.

A minimum of a Low Pressure 2nd Class C Boiler License is required, and at least 1 year experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, drive, use fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must regularly lift and or move weights up to 75 pounds, climb up and down from forklifts and ladder. Specific vision abilities are required by this job. Must be able to work at various heights, in constricting spaces, and in awkward positions.

· Good attendance and punctuality.

· Must have a valid Low Pressure 2nd Class C Boiler License

· The ability to work overtime when necessary.

· Must have the ability to perform the physical demands of the job.

· Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
